Definately Intel ! Intel is faster and consume less electric energy, and it heats less also.
I saw the tests at http://www.hardware.fr/articles/652-1/intel-core-2-duo-e4300.html
Even if you do not understand french, just look at the result pictures you will see Intel dominating at 95% tests.

The Core 2 Duo E4300 will outperform the X2 3800+ even at stock speeds, right out of the box. With fast memory the E4300 can be overclocked (run at higher speeds) for an even greater performance boost.

Just be sure you have plenty of RAM, since that's the most important thing to speed up overall system performance. Be sure to install at least 1 gigabyte.

the first one you mentioned is quite faster processor compared with the second one.
