i have a tank full of fish and for some reason I never seem to have much luck with platties, They seem to suffer from internal infection and thus die, I have one remaining and on it's own in the community of all my fishes it seems to do well, I do not know too much about fish TB but did look it up for you, There seems to be dispute as to whether it is contagious to other fish but I found this site which might be worth a look as it explains the symptoms and treatment, my suggestion as an avid fish lover is to seperate the fish in a different tank in case, and you can treat it better on it's own. The site with the info is www.suite101/article.cfm/aquarium/1770 you may find it helpful, good luck

Isolate the platty in a separate tank. Before you euthanize him, look up info on cammalanus (an intestinal parasite). It produces a spinal deformity similar to TB, but at least it can be treated with Levamisol - you need to get this from a farm supply, not an aquarium store. It won't change the platty's spinal curvature, however, but can keep it from passing to your other fish.

You can sometimes see the worm if the fish isn't active - it looks like a thin red string out his anus.

Best of luck!

If the platy is more than two years old it may just be old age as well as TB or a parasite. Often it is just more $$ smart to dispatch it to the beyond, rather than try to save it. Meds are more often pricier than the cost of replacing the fish. Fish"doctors" are virtually nonexsistant and most diagnosis's you will get here or at petshops will only be educated guess's at best. After removing it,some salt in the tank is never a bad idea when keeping "livebearers" such as platies.

Fish TB is quite rare. More than likely the fish is old or has an internal problem. Platies don't live long and when they get old they start to curve.

isolate your sick platty and put some salt on the water coz it may be a kind of parasite that deformed it's spine

see a vet who deals with fish. If it is causing him pain and maybe a risk to your other fish would you rather put one done for the sake of compassion and then be able to keep the other
luck
