I have ultrasounds every time I got to doc's for a prenatal visit. The for the last three of my appts. I was hoping to get a good view of baby's gender. My doc told me he was 70% sure it's a boy. Why do I not see anything that points to a boy? My first son we did not want to know sex, our second we did find out and he was clear as day. Now this one.... well I'm not even sure what I'm looking at lol !!! I am 30 weeks and curious if u/s is even accurate in finding baby's sex after a certain time period, and if anyone has ever been told the opposite of what they had. Thanks.

Yes it is possible to be told the wrong thing, but usually from female to male. Typically the penis can be seen through ultrasound. However, sometimes the position of the fetus can mask the pelvic region and leave the doctors with a guessing game.

Well, when they look for a boy they look for an organ that is sticking out. A "turtles neck" When they look for a girl, they look for the"McDonald's m." Also ultrasounds are never 100 percent accurate. They should always tell you that so, that is probably why your doctor said what he said. I have never heard of a doctor giving a percentage rate for what they see, but every doctor is different. When you get closer to your due date, the baby's form becomes more clear. Make sure at every sonogram you have, you ask to check the sexual organ for the gender. Remember, these sonograms are expensive and you might as well get your monies worth while checking the baby on the ultrasound.

I know a couple who was told they were having a boy and when she delivered it came out a girl, which was funny because they bought all boy stuff! When you look at the ultrasound, there's the thing that looks like something sticking out. Which I guess is what they thought it was. But now that she turned out to be a girl, I wonder what that was afterall. hahaha.. anyway, yeah, ultrasounds aren't always accurate. Try getting a 4D sonogram when you're about 32 wks. it should be a little more clearer since the picture is a little bit more in depth and your baby may be a lot bigger.

A radiologist can tell at 20 weeks or sooner. Unless there is a problem, they should only do an ultrasound at 10 and 20 weeks and maybe near the end. A friend of mine was told she was having a boy and it was a girl. The doc mistook the cord for being boy parts...

A little boy has parts that show up on the ultrasound looking like a snail or some people would say a turtle. a little girl has three lines, but thats not to say that the tech knows what there doing, or cant for sure tell that its a girl, its easier to show its a boy then a girl, but congrats eaither way

I had a very interesting u/s technician and I liked her a great deal. She explained to me that determining the sex of a baby using u/s was like (this is going to sound crude but it was a very apt anaology) hotdog or hamburger. She asked hubby&I if we wanted to know we responded in the affirmative. So she looked right at the moment that our baby happened to open legs lol and we instantly understood the analogy. She looked hubby&I in the eyes smiled real huge and said well would you like some fries and a shake with that hamburger. We had a girl and she called it with a 98% certainty when we were only 22 wks along....

I wasn't told the wrong gender, however, with my last child my doctor said he was 80% sure she was a girl. I was scared to buy anything for the baby before we were 100% sure and only bought 1 or 2 outfits (which were actually too big for her). Anyways, the only way to know for sure is to have an amniocentesis and those can be risky. I do hope they were right in their "guess."

I am 36 weeks pregnant and just had an ultra sound, and I could definately tell he is a boy! It is sometimes hard for me to "see" what I'm looking at on the ultra sounds so, I have the tech point it out for me, but like I said this time it was clear as day...LOL
I hope this is helpful...Best of Luck and Congrats!

had at least 12 ultrasounds with m second from 16 wks on. every single one it looked like a boy. doc though boy, tech thought boy, i thought boy(and man does the video show a clear crotch shot) she is definately not a he. and no chance of her being switched, only other babies born were boys, the day before, and only 2 of them, and she always had me or her dad with her

Sometimes the baby doesn't want to give up its secret! In most cases, you can find the gender beforehand with complete accuracy. There are some where you can't. If not, enjoy that last great surprise of nature!
