I see lots of foreign call center companies opening up in our country. I am just curious what do they exactly do?

Well.. Call Centres are of two types.. One is outbound and another is inbound. An outbound Call Centre sells different products(Telephone/internet/mobile connections, mortgages etc) to customers in U.S., UK or the designated country. And any worker in outbound call centers are better known as telemarketer. It is called Outbound Call Center because you make outgoing calls from here.
And an inbound call centre does a customer service job.. Say, for an example I buy a computer from IBM. Now my computer has certain problems. So, what I'll do is I'll call the toll free number of IBM(or whatever company it is), and that call will be answered by the Customer Care Executives(or Call Center Executives) back in India(Or may be some other country, wherever that Call Center is located). And then the Call Center Executives will listen to my queries and solve my problem. It is known as inbound just beacause you receive calls from troubled customers.. And all the workers do is troubleshooting.
Just like we call Reliance or Airtel customer care each time the balance goes down without my knowledge.
That's it. Very simple. And one more interesting thing.. Any CCE(Call Center Executive) in Europe/US wil take minimum $15/hr, and a monthly minimum wage of $2500, plus other associated costs, whereas in countries like ours the maximum wage will be $800-900 including equipment and other office costs, giving huge savings to the outsourcing companies.

Their job is to confuse and frustrate you into giving up on trying to get service from a company without actually expressing a desire to not help you.
