I am taking Human Anatomy and we saw a video of a girl in surgery and I saw them take a tendon or ligament out to replace some cartilage, and I felt nausea and lightheaded like I was floating away. I put my head down to rest and I had like a five second dream of me falling and spinning, next thing I know I am on the floor, and nobody noticed. I am not generally squemish about blood or anything except this just happened out of the blue.

No, it's not bad for your health or well being. It's a pretty common event to see if you work in a hospital or the health care professions for very long. Lots of people get woozy seeing surgery, especially those not accustomed to the sights, sounds or smells. There could have been any number of things that helped donate to the event- you may have been a little warm, a little low on blood sugar, or even tired, and all that combined with the sight to temporarily put out the lights on the porch. I've seen nursing students and even student doctors take the dive, and they go on to do just fine later. So I wouldn't stress over the one odd occurence. I am a bit more concerned that the teacher at least didn't seem to take notice, unless the room was really dark. You would think your fellow students would have noticed, at least, and raised the alarm. In the future, you might want to mention the event to the teacher, and then he/she could keep an eye out for you if there are more movies scheduled in the future. While you aren't squeemish about blood, it may be you need to get a little more adapted to the sights. And if you find you can't, it's okay. Not everyone has to be a tough guy and deal with the guts and blood. But I wouldn't sweat one time passing out. Relax, it probably won't happen again. Most of the time it doesn't.

The fact that you fell on the floor and nobody noticed concerns me more then the fact that you passed out from the video that just means that knid of thing is not for you but Geeze what was your teacher doing to not notcie one of his students was passed out on the class room floor. I am sorry that happened to you sweetie and next time you ahve to study that material make sure you have a friend close by. Good luck :)

I wouldn't worry about it. These things happen a lot. I fainted in school a while ago, when someone cut their hand really badly. It was just a one-time thing, but it scared me at the time.

Anyway, if it happens to you again, then you might want to see a doctor, or at least tell your parents or something.

Not being squeemish about blood and watching them take out a tendon are two seperate issues. The sight of it made you sick. No big deal. Just don't go into the health care profession.

Hi Andy,

It sounds like you could've been dehydrated. You can get dizzy from being dehydrated. You should be drinking at least 8-10 glasses a water a day. If it continues to happen, I would contact your physician. Good luck!

maybe it was brought on by not eating enough recently, and lack of a good nights sleep...?
