As i was finishing up some lab work, i realized that perfection is boring. I wouldnt have a job if things always turned out how they were supposed to.

Why is everyone always looking for perfection? Perfection is boring. The universe is said to constantly move from a less chaotic state to a more chaotic one, (that may be the law of entropy or enthalpy). So are we here to try and combat a force that has already been set in motion from the beginning of time?

Is it human nature to constantly try to achieve perfection with everything? because if its not, then why is it that any of you out there read these questions? is it not to achieve some sort of enlightenment? or to help make the world better by trying to help others out?

I understand that those were too many questions to answer, so answer this one:

Is the meaning of life to seek perfection? and if it is, is perfection feasible?

I believe that people seek perfection (or something approaching it) because it is necessary. If someone were to say that because perfection is not attainable, he or she was going to stop striving for it, their life would have no definition. Isn't most of what we do a reach for perfection? Of course, the reason we say that this is necessary is because society has conditioned us to, as it is necessary for the functioning of society.

As you said, systems tend towards a chaotic state. This rule includes the societal system. However, this is only true when the system is closed and there is no addition of energy. Essentially, society would collapse in the absence of people inputing their energy to keep it together (a form of striving for perfection). So if we didn't all (on average) seek perfection, our society would drift closer towards anarchy, a state not biologically beneficial for us. I believe we have been biologically directed towards a state in which the perfection we seek allows us to maintain stabler societies.

Perfection is not possible, feasible or reasonable nor is it the meaning of life. Since the beginning of humankind people have tried to find some kind of meaning in life. The need for a meaning had widely been satisfied by religion, but as most of us know by now, we live in a universe governed by universal constants which dictate our everyday lives. Without getting into too much detail I'm just going to say it. Looking at the big picture there really is no meaning, its all rather pointless. Does this mean we shouldn't cherish life? No. Lets break it down to the basics. The goal of any organism is to reproduce, and do what is best for the individual as well as the collective. So of course we will value life for that is what we are programed to do. As for meaning, its up to you to decide whether you need it or not. to be continued...

This is the Best question I have seen here on the topic of meaning of life..... so original and insightful..... I am not sure if proper justice can be done by me who is not a student of Philosophy. But it is such a compelling question that I am unable to keep my hands off.

The Indian Philosophical thought provides some relevant ideas to the one you have raised.... and perhaps even confirms your view. I am simply repeating whatever little I have heard.

God is supposed to be perfection personified. God acquired a blemish or colour or shape so that this universe came into being ("Maya"). This idea proves that the universe can not be perfect because it is born when God took on imperfection and as long as it is expanding, it can only become more and more imperfect.

The next question arises as to why did God the Perfect have to acquire the imperfection... the answer given is that God did so for the emancipation of Souls through life experience. When the soul goes through various lives, it gets purified by and by through variety of experiences .....and finally when it is fully purified, it becomes eligible to merge into God. Thus, the meaning of life indeed looks like purification of soul to eventually merge into God... in other words seeking perfection.

Yes, your idea is so close to the Indian philosophical thought that for a moment I just wondered whether you are not an Indian. Not that every Indian would have such great insights.

I have not yet said my small bit. I personally believe that if there is a central meaning to life in this universe, it ought to be too grand and great for us small and minuscule parts of it to be able to comprehend.... and it would be so important that whether we know or not, we would and could only contribute towards it all through our life and do nothing else at all. Therefore, it does not make sense to search for the meaning of life.... we just need to live our life as best as we can and let others too be able to do the same!!

I think the meaning of life is to seek perfection, and I believe it is feasible. I am certain that many people have reached perfection but due to their perfect state they are unable to share it with the world (ie it would ruin the state of perfection). I don't think perfection has to do with material things, or social status or even knowledge. I think perfection is in those who learn how to love unconditionally. I also think that is the single most difficult thing to achieve.
Try loving every being that comes into your life for one day and you will know what I mean. Thank you for the awesome question, it's always refreshing to know that people still ponder the meaning of life ; )

Approaching the age of 60, I have come to the conclusion that seeking perfection is not productive. If everyone just could make the world he or she deals with a bit better, that would be real progress. Of course, the next question is how do we define "making the world better."

there is not any single which ability of existence and there are endless, counting on each and each guy or woman's adventure and emotions. it may comprise microbes, flowers, animals, people, our physique of innovations to existence or perhaps existence on different planets and moons. Perfection is the two good and undesirable. it may bring about good issues being made even though it may additionally reason melancholy and misery once you won't be able to realize it. yet we would possibly no longer sense contentment in our later degree of existence if we don't try alongside the way, in direction of perfection. to this point as a risk, we'd desire to continuously be diligent and advance each step of our way in what we do, to realize high quality because of the fact greater goodness and advantages will come.

Have you ever considered that, everything is perfect already?,...

The meaning of life is to know your perfect already!, becuase out of all the chances of the universe, you exist now. You make mistakes & acidents but preform mistakes & acidents perfectly. You are worthy becuase you are here, there is no UPPER law or lower law. There is no evens or odds because life flows and cannot be measured. How long are you going to live? It took millions apon millions of people to come down to one existance, which is you. Millions apon millions of years of the strongest genes and mixtures of them to form you and your genes. We do not need to "look" for perfect becuase the universe and are own selves make and have made perfection already.

This is not just you, this is every other person aswell. Even other animals, and plants.

Perfection is just something everybody strives for. It's definitely not the meaning of life.
I think the meaning of life is different for each individual, because each individual has a different purpose on this Earth.
The real question should be, "If we're all slated to die, why do we even bother?" Maybe it's because we all need something that gives our lives importance, and purpose.

i think perfection is in the eye of the beholder. i don't think perfection is the meaning of life....the meaning of life is different for everybody. i just try to be the best that i think i can be. i'm just here to help make the world better, with the knowledge that it can never be perfect in everyone's eyes.

good question....made me think a lot....i hope my answer made sense.
