will a core duo fit into pentium D socket?

i have a pentium D 2.80 GHz processor but want to upgrade...will a core 2 duo E6300 or E6400 process fit in the same motherboard? I own a Dell 510 with 2 Gigs of Memory and 256mb video...would it be worth the money for games (i own games like AOE 3 with Warchiefs)

It's the uses the same socket so it should fit without any problems.
