Basically a features piece is light news. Something like "How To Keep Your Parents Off The Internet" or "The Latex Savior: Jesus on a Condom?". It's discussing a topic or an event or a person that is of interest to your readers.

It is news, so news standards apply, such as a preference for interviews and a third-person objective. However, there's some leeway for personal opinion.

Your local paper almost certainly has a light news section, be it in Entertainment or Restaurant Reviews or some other such incarnation.
