I had some legal problems so I accepted the fact that I wouldnt be reciving industry standard when I started 8 months ago.
I am the only field tech in the company I work for, my bosses and customers are satisfied with my work. I have 8 years experience in my industry. according to http://www.indeed.com/salary?q1=telephone+technician&l1=brooklyn+ny&tm=1 I am making about 10,000 less than standard in NYC.

How long should I wait before asking for a raise? Should I wait untill I have been there 52 weeks, or is the 39 weeks that I have been there enough?

Aprox what would be an acceptable percentage or dollar figure raise, I understand that I can not expect to see a 10,000 raise to bring me up to standard, but would 5,000 be a reasonable goal to reach for (aprox 2.40/hr)

I am paid flat salary, not hourly, they refuse to pay OT, when I started they said there was occasional opportunity for overtime. They allow me to start late if I work longer then an 8 hour shift the prior day.

I am in NYC and I realise the higher standard of living, I live here.

The company did not do a back ground check and never asked, so I didnt tell everything.

I did put feelers out for other employment opportunities, but I get to bring the company veichle home, which is a bonus, where I dont need my own car or insurance.

I do not belive my legal problems a road block any longer, however today I just got 2 moving violation tickets, and being driving is 90 percent of my job, that may restrict my options for a period of time.

I am comftorble and happy with the job, Just looking to make closer to what I am worth.

I suspect that you was hired because needed a job and would work below industry standard salary. I also suspect that since you didn't mention finding another job that certain restrictions prevent you from finding a more lucrative position more suiting your experience. In a situation like that, an employer knows what he has (someone who have difficulty finding similar employment) and where he has you (by the proverbial family jewels) and will gladly point you in the direction of the street if you start talking raises and just compensation.

Personally, I'd have a sit down talk with the boss and bring in your figures. Explain how you feel that a raise is due since you've been there over 180 days, then back it up with your figures. Good luck.

I would reckon that 52 weeks would be the norm before u can ask for a raise but if your bosses are happy with your performance, you maybe cud ask for it even now. But it will depend on how strongly your bosses support you. Regarding the percentage, I would say 15% shud be ok.

NYC has a higher standard of living than most places, so you cant use that as an excuse. Compare jobs that are in the same field and same locality or area. That way you know if youre under paid or over paid.......
