Well, stop it then.
Ignore the ignorant ones that simply throw up crap to stir you, that happens both ways.
Then ones that have some merit, answer in a way that doesn't attack the person, but refutes their idea or case.
Good logic or data, when repeated, will effect the other person. Not everyone, for some have been lost to their side and may not have enough intelligience to understand anyway. Manners and courtesy will be always appreciated.
Then, when you really want to let loose, find one of those jerks that fit into the idiot camp and let him have it. Keep that down to no more than 1 or 2 a week, just to relieve stress.

I don't think there is hatred between Dems & Repubs. It's that we all love our country and believe that our views are what's best for the future. I think politicians are the ones that are causing most of the division. Years ago when Gerald Ford, John Kennedy, LBJ, and Nixon served in the US Congress, they would all have heated debates on the floor over politics. Sometimes there would be mudslinging and it would get personal, but at the end of the day, they'd hang out and go to the basement in the Capital building and play poker and drink shots of whiskey and scotch. Now politics is taken too personal. How they handle differences rubs off on everyone else. We all want what is best. We should agree to disagree & not lose our ability to discuss issues without losing our civility & decency towards one another.

Why? by using fact we've a black president for the 1st time in history. and no-you will rationally argue that the hatred and divisiveness is something different than that - this is that in the event that they study a newspaper at any time in the time of the Bush Regime. before everything - bush on no account might desire to have been interior the White abode to start with! He did no longer "win" the two of the elections. the comprehensive 8, long, depressing years of secrecy, corruption, violation of any status protocol or perhaps an attempt at integriy, the violation of the fourth substitute, the unlawful warfare against a rustic which on no account did a ingredient to us... My god I purely don't have the capability to form out the 20-30 pages of undesirable regulations and criminal interest. My factor being - if any American EVER had something to "upward push up" against, it could have been decrease than Bush.

Ever since I got my yahoo account deleted about 6 months ago, (along with 15 years worth of emails - IMPORTANT EMAILS) I've tried my best to be cordial to everyone, even when I'm telling them that I think they are 100% wrong.
I also answer a lot less questions, and avoid obviously baited questions where the person already knows what kind of answer they are going to get (either, "yes you're a genius blah blah blah" or "you're so stupid, blah blah blah").
There are many intelligent people on both sides - all you need to do is ignore the trolls and look for the answers that people actually put some thought into.

Y!A is just a reflection of American politics as a whole. Mudslinging partisanship!
Actually I believe the majority here are young people who are voicing the opinions of their parents and/or peers as they are not experienced enough to have developed a real opinion of their own.

Mini ... You've posed a good and well-written question.
Unfortunately, I get the strong impression that 50% to 70% of Y!A (Yahoo Answers) users are minors who are either unintelligent enough to submit serious answers, or who hide behind the anonymity they enjoy and intentionally spout off things they'd never say to someone in-person. I sometimes wish that users would be required to fully register and identify themselves with full name and address and I believe that would eliminate 98% of the stupidity we see from young and old alike. On the other hand, requiring everyone to fully identify themselves would also make it all too easy for a "nut case" to do you harm just because he/she didn't like one of your questions or answers.

The polarization has gone far. It seems to be infecting religion as well.
There is a German expression, lies have short legs, they will take you only so far. I think this time will pass.
