I am a secondary school student of East-Asian descent studying in New Zealand. Recently, one of my teachers at school degraded my country in front of the whole class and kept on talking about my country as well as all other East- Asian countries for nearly about 15 minutes. She is an English teacher of European descent.

She said that international students are naughty and immature.
She went on to say that asian countries are really stupid as they keep sending international students for language-acquiring purpose. She even dared to point out my typical origin and claimed people from my country are dumb people.

As she said these shocking things, my class-mates mostly whites
glimpsed at me to see whether I'm getting red or angry and started laughing.

I was totally shocked, and I couldn't say anything until the class finished. I thought New Zealand was a pretty safe place with tolerance to other cultures, but this experience made me rewrite my incorrect view. Are europeans racis

or what?

Classes of people (like "Europeans") are rarely racists--but individuals among all classes of people certainly are. Please do report her. She should not be using her position of power to spread such a nasty point-of-view.

I'm Asian and I'm shocked. Doesn't your teacher know we make the best video games, web sites and etc.? seriously, that teacher is an all and out racist. Report her to the principal. If that doesn't work, report her to New Zealand's Dept. of Education (if there is one) and if that doesn't work, call the media, organize other Asian students around you, have a sit in and watch as the reporters unravel your racist teacher. I don't pretend I know anything about New Zealand. But I work in education in the states. If I heard anything like that from a co-worker...well, let's just say we have our civil liberties union and racist remarks like that, especially to children, well ensure that teacher would never ever teach again.

By the way, Europeans, in general, are not racists. I lived in Europe for a year and many of them are really nice. There were a few racists, but there were isolated incidents. There are more nice people than meanies but the meanies are just louder.

Your question is paradoxically racist. When you generalise a people with a particular trait, you are creating a stereotype, which in itself can be considered racist if it is negative.

This teacher is racist and would be fired immidately in Ireland and most likely in the UK too. Maybe that is why this teacher moved to New Zealand.

They are blatanly so.NOT all of them. But this one particular thang! should definently be reported on both ends(your side and hers).Meaning both of your country's officials should know about this. She obviously does not deserve her teaching status if she can only teach about hate and intolerence of others. What is she,SATAN walking and talking. You know what, report her trashy *** to the media and see how long she remains a teacher.I wonder if the IGNORANT!! BEYOOTCH could last even 15 minutes in any respective Asian country.

omg... didn't i get that? tell ya my very short story. it may not sound like anything to you, but it had a huge impact on me. well it was last year. i'm chinese, and i'm a catholic. my art teacher gave us a piece of plaster-like board. and we were supposed to carve a design outta it. well, the teacher was Malay, and it was the first project she was supposed to grade (we had a chinese teacher before her, but then the school changed her to our class). well, i didn't know she was going to be the one who'll be grading our project, for i thought the ex, the chinese was. well, i carved a very beautiful cross on it, and coloured it beautifully. art was my fav subject, one of the BEST thing i could do in the world, probably one of the greatest gift God gave me. i did it with all my heart, and i didn't really think it was good at all before, but when i saw what my other friends did, i knew quite well i was going to score well, on that project. well, we handed up our projects, and the results came back, and i got the Super-Lowest marks in the whoel class. i mean, really..... everybody was surprised, but they were more glad that they did well than being sorry for me. nobody guessed the reason for me getting the low marks was because of the cross, they just thought maybe the teacher didn't like it that much. well, i was sad. but didn't make a bif deal outta it. i actually went to the teacher, acted jokey, and made a joke, like i asked her hey why the low marks? somthing missing, eh? and well, she looked somewhat.... embarrassed. there's a lot of racial discrimination here. and i don't know how it is like there, but i'm sorry for your friends too. know what they can do? ask them to still be sincere and honest, and show it through their work. i was like the only christian in the entire class, all the other girls are buddhists. but i had to cope well. nobody minds me being in the diff religion. except the teacher. oh, and the teacher later treated me well. she even told me that she's going to transfer to another school at the last day of school last year. i made it clear to her that i forgived her, and she signaled to me that she's sorry. that's all i asked for. and got.

That's pretty scary. Mostly everyone in America that are smart enough to go to college are not racists, but apparently things are quite different down under.
