a real estate agent? i want to get a license so i can save money instead of giving all the commison to someone else. but do u have to be with a firm to do it?

couldn't a for sale by owner, (but somone who has a license), list it on the MLS to give 2.5% to buyer agents to bring more buyers?

You could get your license if you have the time and money. Know that to go to school and get your license and then join a MLS board and hang your license with a broker is not as cheap as one may think it is. If you are serious about selling on your own there are plenty of Realtors that do a MLS only listing flat fee. Also consider some of the tips in these investor articles I've posted below. Good luck!

By the time you paid your fees for schooling, testing and licensing, I doubt very much that you'd save anything. An agent has to have a Broker to work for and that Broker is not going to allow her agents to sell their own properties in MLS with no benefit to the company. The liability is always of concern to a Broker. If you seriously consider real estate as a profession, saving commissions should not be your main concern as it is a "lot like work"!
