Im a server too and ive found that using colongne or perfume to drown the smell doesnt work great. You have to put too much on to smell it the whole time your working. Food aparently can over power ANYTHING! Ive found that the fragrance oils (yes they do have one that work for men) stay on the whole time and still smell good without being over powering. I think because it really sets to your skin. Try going to the hippy shops or off the wall stores and they will have them. I think they even make some now to smell like famous colognes.

Unless you are the maitre'd you should not be wearing any cologne.

First, this could mask the scent of the food which is part of the presentation in a high class restaurant.

Secondly, there are a lot of people that are allergic to or have bad reactions to colognes and perfumes. You don't want to be an intrusion to the customers when they are in a high class restaurant.

If you feel this is still necessary, speak with the head waiter or maitre'd about suggestions on what would be good as they will have the experience to know what will and will not interfere with the dining experience for the guests.

If you apply enough cologne to drown out food and smoke odors, it might bother some of your customers.

If I'm at a "high class" restaurant, I'm there for the food, which means the taste and smell of it. Since smell is an integral part of taste, if I can only smell the waiter, my food's not going to taste very good to me. And I'll be less inclined to tip well - I don't want to give you any more money to buy cologne!

I personally agree with the Ax, it smells good and cover smoke really well, my husband wears it and it made him smell better when he used to smoke. It's also not too strong cause the only thing worse than is too much cologne!

Do not wear cologne. Nothing will cover the food and smoke smell.

My favorite men's fragrance ever is Egoiste, but for a working environment I'd pick Nautica. It's very fresh and clean smelling without being overpowering.
The website below says that Nautica " is classified as a refreshing, spicy, lavender, amber fragrance. This masculine scent possesses a blend of lemon, sage, rose and jasmine. Accompanied by moss and sandalwood. It is recommended for daytime wear."
