Don't get really dressed up. No suit. Act like you're not even paying attention to what's going on. Don't smile. I got out of federal jury duty. Prosecution wants a well-dressed person. Defense wants someone kinda relaxed. Neither wants someone whose mind is wandering the entire jury selection. But DO NOT BE DISRESPECTFUL TO THE JUDGE. I saw that and the guy was fined for contempt...then escorted out.

You can be excused, legitimately if you are providing care for an ill or disabled family member. If you have any mental problems yourself or if you can show it would create undue hardship.
If they decide you are just being uncooperative, you could end up doing jail time.
If when you are interviewed for jury duty, you have a very prejudiced opinion regarding race or class such as lawyers, police they will most likely dismiss you and take your name off the roles. But, you better be sincere or you could be held in contempt.

When they ask you if you believe in the death penalty, tell them damn right, bring them on, and kill them all. This really happened one time when I was called to jury duty. They sent his tail out the door real quick. I tripped out.

Tell them that you know someone involved with the trial or you've read everything you could get your hands on about the thing...be VERY enthusiastic. ; )

Jury duty is not bad, as long as you are getting reimbursed.

Bring your Bible, (or really freak them out and bring a Koran), and come loaded with pre-conceived opinions.
