I love God because He gave me everything. He granted me victory, He gave me defeat so I'll learn to work harder and never give up, He gave me a family and friends that would forever served as an inspiration for me. He loves me, and He loves you too. I know there are certain times in your life when you feel down. When that happens again, try, even for once, to think about Him, and then, maybe, you'll understand why lots of people love Him.

I think that you don't want to believe in hell because you want to be safe to be wrong. You can't see air, but it fills your lungs does it not? You have never been to Antarctica, and yet you believe the stories and some map that someone made up right? Here say that this place really existed. I don't know why you don't want to believe in God that's fine, but why does everyone want to blame God for the mess this place is in if you don't believe in Him in the first place? I mean take God away and the only place left is hell. And who else is there to blame? Ourselves. And following the ten commandments doesn't get you into heaven. Maybe you should re-read some of the scriptures. Also if you are serious about finding the truth maybe you should forget the Bible and look at Mere Christianity, it will logically answer a few of your questions, or the Problem of Pain, it might answer why the Earth is in the state that it is. Happy questing!

John I would love to talk to you in person, but to know Him is to love Him.God created everything around us.Could you make a tree or beautiful flower.Just look around yourself and see the beauty beyond people that you know and see.Hell is real and the devil loves the way you are thinking right now.Just try to see beauty in everything you see first and don't judge things as bad and ugly.We are all human with the right to make choices in our own lives and not let others drag us down. You do right and you will be rewarded for it and you will feel good inside where Jesus wants to live in you.The Bible is a light to our path of life and God gave us a promise of a good and beautiful life for every day of the year.People Act ugly and are ugly because they do not accept God into their hearts and lives.Think about the Bible being around for six thousand years. No other written word has ever been passed down for that length of time.It is always the same forever, never changes.Read John, three,Sixteen in the Bible Please.Hope you find and accept Jesus into your heart.Man is beautiful.God loves you and wants you to love him.You know God IS because you have questions. So get serious and please read the Bible and find a Church to go to.Not to be religious but to be saved from hell fire.Religion does not get you to Heaven Christianity does.I am praying for you.

I used to think all of those same things. I used to say that there might be a God, but if there was, He didn't care about us; and that the Bible was just a storybook somebody wrote to keep us from killing each other (funny, that was the only book I ever gave my opinion about without even reading it!) Also that the Jesus story was a bunch of crap. Sound familiar? Then when I was about 35, some weird stuff started to happen to me, weird coincidences and too much other stuff to go into here, and I decided to try to find out for myself if God was real- to actually investigate the matter. I was very surprised to find out that there is, indeed, a God. I got to know Him, I believe I have heard His voice, and the more I learn about Him, the more I love Him. I believe He is a loving, patient creator, not an angry, vengeful destroyer, so I do not fear Him. I don't belive there is a hell, but even so, I try to be a better person every day. I don't expect you to believe me, I'm just a stranger on the net, but you can find out about God for yourself if you want to. Diligently seek Him, and I promise that He will reveal Himself to you. It sounds as if you need peace, and He can give you that, and much more, if you just ask.

sounds a little bias..you don't know god and how could one not love the fantasy created by themselves. Its true that some religions push for wrong doings but goods can come from it too. If it gives faith for people to live on and work to be a better person. whos right is it to deny and critcize them? The whole goal of relgion is to help people better themselves if they have no way to go at it. That's what I believe as well. If it makes you feel better, don't believe in anything but work to better yourself in everyway so people can see you as god reincarnated or something lol.

I HOPE I CAN ANSWER THIS FOR YOU.
I KNOW THAT NO ONE HAS SEEN GOD BUT WE HAVE EVIDENCE THAT JESUS CHRIST DID BEFORE HE CAME TO EARTH. DO YOU BELIEVE THAT THE UNIVERSE WAS BROUGHT INTO EXISTENCE BY A BIG BANG OR CREATED. IF BIG BANG I CAN NOT HELP YOU. IF BY GOD I CAN HELP MOST PEOPLE DO NOT BELIEVE IN GOD BECAUSE OF WHAT THEY SEE ALL THE EVIL AND ALL THE DIFFERENT RELIGIONS. ON ONE KNOWS WHO OR WHAT TO BELIEVE.
WE ARE MADE IN THE IMAGE OF GOD. IT IS OUR SOULS NOT OUR PHYSICAL BODY'S THAT ARE CREATED IN IS IMAGE. WHEN GOD WAS ON THIS EARTH HE WAS A SPIRIT AND HE MADE US PHYSICAL.
SORRY WE DO NOT LIVE UNDER THE 10 COMMANDMENTS TO DAY JESUS CHANGED THAT WE LIVE UNDER THE NEW TESTAMENT ONLY. WE NEED TO READ THE OLD BUT WE DO NOT LIVE UNDER IT. GLA. 2:16, 3:10-27,COL. 2:14 HEB. WHOLE BOOK
IF THERE IS NO HELL THEN THERE IS NO HEAVEN AND WE CAN DO ANYTHING WE WANT NO GOD NO NOTHING. THERE IS A GOD HE SPEAKS TO US THOUGHT HIS WORD ONLY. DO YOU THINK THAT ALL THE RELIGIONS OF THE WORD HAVE HIS STAMP OF APPROVAL. SATAN HAS THE WORLD SO CONFUSED AND HE LIKES IT THAT WAY. HE DOSE NOT WANT ANY BODY TO KNOW THE TRUTH AND TRUTH CAN NOT CONTRADICT ITSELF. THAT WAY WE SHOULD ALL BELIEVE THE SAME THING IN RELIGION. PLEASE READ FIRST CORINTHIANS 1:10-13.

I'm an Atheist, albeit a non-militant one. Probably more of a humanist if anything else.
Many people believe in God for the reasons you list. Understand motivation can be nailed down to two basic ideas: fear and self-interest ("what's in it for me?"). Religion seems to use both of these: Believe and you'll receive an everlasting reward or don't believe and suffer eternal punishment. This double-whammy of motivation techniques gets many people to believe and when they believe, it becomes as real to them as their own hand in front of their face.
As belief defines reality, reality will vary from person to person because beliefs are never quite the same. Who am I to tell someone their reality is wrong? Who are they to tell me likewise? I'll acknowledge we're different and leave it at that. I just let them go about their way. They don't push their religion on me and I'm OK with not whipping out the logic on 'em.
I'm assuming from your question you don't believe in God either. You and I won't understand why people would believe in such a thing with the depth of emotion they do; it doesn't make sense. Accordingly, religious adherents won't understand why we adamantly don't believe in their gods. It's really a matter of self-defined reality; we just can't experience what we don't believe and that goes both ways.
As for the fear aspect, it's often used with children because they understand that a bit more intimately than the loving-something-you-can't-see part. As they grow older and the indoctrination is well-seated, they retain the fear of God alongside the fear of disappoint of the parental figures if they don't believe/do what they're told. It's usually around the teen years the real push goes out for the self-interest angle as they're now old enough to understand their own mortality.
But if you're going to rip on religion for using these methods of indoctrination, you've gotta include so many others because fear/self-interest is a fundamental part of human nature and everyone uses it. Many understand this and use it over others to their own advantage. Ever notice how a demogogue can influence a crowd? They get them to believe something by instilling a belief in the fear ("You're going to hell for eternity and are powerless to stop it!"), they pull the self-interest on them ("...but Jesus can save you! Just do as I say..."). And the military...well, maybe that's an article for another time.
We, too, can use these methods. But I feel such a power should be used ethically, not for a corrupt gain.
Remember: We make our own reality and create our own world. Don't let others make it for you.

Casper I can truly say I have heard and felt God seek and you shall find. You have so much hatred in your words. You need to let it go and b/c there is so much hate maybe thats why you have never experianced God. Man you can touch, see and hold but they will hurt you all the time never put your trust in man. Be careful what you say and ask for. God Bless
