When I knew I was going to Europe, I studied German, and French, and Spanish for several months by using study guides and cassettes.
A co-worker was from Germany and sometimes when we sat at lunch and spoke in German I would accidentally switch to one of the other languages because the phrase evidentally was more prevalent in my memory and she would look at me and say, "What the he** was that?"
That must be the results of trying to stuff ten pounds of information into a five pound brain!!
I managed to learn how to order a meal, a hotel room, a rental car and ask directions in German, French and Spanish well enough that I didn't get slapped by anyone! It was great trip, met some good people and a few crabs. Learned there is a lot of difference in how they live!!!

I do. Sometimes I'll speak in Spanish or French. Sometimes I get the two mixed up. My native language, of course, is English.

Yes and yes. Actually, it is more along the line of a word coming out in the one language while speaking the other language. My children thought all mom's could speak franglais. ; )

I speak English and Russian (live in US, born in Russia). I speak English better than Russian. I usually talk in Russian with other Russian people when I don't want Americans to understand what I'm saying.

Yeah, sometimes when I'm very impassioned with what I'm talking about I accidentally throw in some words from another language that I know.

2 - English and Afrikaans. I grew up speaking both of them, and it's very easy to switch between the two without noticing for the first couple of words...
