Karma is basically the law of cause and effect very similar to that expressed by the Christian verse, "As ye sow, so shall ye reap." It comes originally from India and, with a few very minor differences, is a strong belief system for both Hindus and Buddhists.
The word karma translates as "action" and it basically means that for every action you take there will be a reaction in the future. Therefore, positive caring action results in "good" karma and nasty, selfish, negative ones will result in your suffering, "bad"karma.
Bad and good karma, some believe, will come back to you in this lifetime, maybe in a lifetime yet to come. Both Hindus and Buddhists believe in the concept of reincarnation and the immortality of the soul. This affords the individual endless lives or opportunities to perfect themselves or work on their karma. The idea is to do better works each lifetime, evolve spiritually, and you will eventually reach perfection and break free of the cycle of reincarnation and attain eternal bliss in what Hindus call "moksha". Moksha is the Hindu equivalent of the Buddhist "nirvana".
There is no god or heavenly accountant who administers karma. There is no god to punish or praise. In this philosophy, every individual is responsible for the creation of their own karma through their own actions and deeds. In other words, every action you take will have a repercussion in the future, and you have to live with the consequences of your actions.
One interesting thing to note. There is also great focus put to INTENT. If you have an accident and something goes wrong, there is no karma involved. But if you planned the accident, you earn more bad karma. In reverse, if you do something and it turns out to work miracles, you do not get the benefits of good karma because you did not have the intention to create good in the first place.

Karma is a sum of all that an individual has done, is currently doing and will do. The results or "fruits" of actions are called karma-phala. Karma is not about retribution, vengeance, punishment or reward. Karma simply deals with what is. The effects of all deeds actively create past, present and future experiences, thus making one responsible for one's own life, and the pain and joy it brings to others. In religions that incorporate reincarnation, karma extends through one's present life and all past and future lives as well.

Whether you're religious, or not, I believe it has a lot to do with how you treat people during your time on Earth. It ends up being the way you'll be treated in the Afterlife.

It is the belief that if you do something wrong in your life you will pay for your actions later. If not in actual punishment then maybe guilt or fear. However in doing good, good things will happen to you. Pride, happiness, satisfaction, or something physical.

the gayness of yahoo answers is incomprhensible to the human mind.
Its so gay and so vastness in its gayness...that it bends space and time as we know it. Once you see the gayness of yahoo answers, you are forever changed. Nothing can change you.
Do good, and good will come back to you...that is karma. Its just helping those who need help or have helped you back, human solidarity...knowing your friends, and paying the respects to them as due. Being a real friend...and finally but not least,
knowing that once you have encountered something as gay as yahoo answers, it will bind with your soul, you becoming a little bit gay because of it. Do not look into yahoo answers...it is very gay....it is so gay, that is gayness will forever transcend your imagination.
