Sometimes if I have to go back in a paragraph and correct somthing instead of just pushing the rest of the text forward as I type it just writes over the text and deletes words as I type. Why does it do that only sometimes and is there a way to stop it from happening?

You have pressed the INSERT key. Press it again and it will stop.

When you are typing you would be using some editor or a word processor and their is some thing called insert on and insert off the "ins" button on the keyboard works as a toggle. So when insert on option has been selected then waterever you have typed would push the letters / words ahead whereas if you have selected the insert off option then the words would be over written and that is what is happening in your case . Simple you the toggle key "ins" and your problem would be solved. This cannot be a virus as stated by some person before me.

This happens when you press Insert on your keyboard... It turns on 'overtype'. All you really have to do is press Insert [again] to turn it off. A lot of the time, this will happen accidently, but you can catch it pretty quickly if you don't type much.

Also, if you're in Microsoft Word, it tells you at the very bottom of the window. The letters 'OVR' will be bold/dark, instead of faint. You can click on that to correct it, too.

I think you are talking about MS WORD my friend.. or if any other software its the same..
the thing you are trying to say is called 'overwriting' and to start or stop this thing press insert key ( one of the six keys given right side or your enter key) in case of MS WORD, OVR will be written in the downside..
if you need to insert any letter or word in between at that type if your letters are deleting press Insert key then write.. hope you get the solution.. best luck

It means you accidentally hit the 'insert' key on your keyboard.

You're using the "modify" feature and should use the "edit" feature
