Criminal vehicular homicide is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to 12 months in jail. Vehicular homicide is the unintentional killing of another that results from the operation of a motor vehicle.

She is getting the same everyone else would get, excluding the $50 million charge.
Unintentional vehicular manslaughter does not land you "years" in jail. (Unless there is drugs and alcohol involved.. which in this case there wasn't. Drugs and alcohol involved is a minimum of 2 years)

From what I read she rear ended a car, that car hit hit the car in front of it and went into the other lane and got hit by another driver that caused the death. I do not know the law about traffic accidents but it appears to be an accident. Not any one's fault, just a tragic accident. Brandy happens to be celebrity and the family think they can get mucho bucks. Think about this if it was not a celebrity, the insurance companies would pay the injured parties. My cousin was killed in a traffic accident on the same highway under similar situations. The insurance companies paid my Aunt. What if a famous person was involved? Should not make a difference.

According to research I just did, the normal time is one year in prison. Some prosecutors will accept jail time for a person who has no other convictions and was not impaired at the time of the accident.

There are bills pending in congress to increase the penalty. I feel the law is much too lenient in this situation. People need to have the fear of several years prison time put into their hearts in order to halt the bloodshed on the highways. Last year more than 40,000 killed in vehicle accidents. We now have more than 3,000 killed in Iraq military action and people are marching to protest that mission. Where are the protesters for the 40,000 + dead from one year alone?

For some reason the court system in this country favors people with notoriety and wealth. She should face the same charges as anyone else in that situation. I think the minimum for vehicular manslaughter is like 10 years.

Well I haven't heard about it or seen what your talking about but for that amount of money, sounds like the family is trying to cash in on a loved ones death. That's really sad.

she may have been driving reckless but i dont think that she was trying to hurt let alone kill someone on purpose. she should be treated like anyone else would be.
i think that she getting sued just because the family knows she has money..

If she was drinking or drugging then yes she should do time. But that isn't the case. Generally ANYONE in a fatal accident who is sober does not do time.

she deserves jail time for tailgating while chatting on her cell. she killed someone because she was negligent.

And for those who saying oh the family is cashing in, BULLSHIT, if it were your family member you would do the same thing, the woman she killed had a small child
