I recently bought a box of Instead and it was very uncomfortable to use. I was wondering if I was using it wrong or what your experiences have been with it. It felt like it was pushing against my bladder and blocking it all at the same time. I went to the website and heard a few convincing testimonials, but I was wondering what "real" people's experiences have been. Also I heard "clean" sex is possible with this product. What are your experiences with that aspect?

I have used Instead softcups but like a lot of women found they were the wrong size to cover my cervix so tended to leak, I will sometimes use them when I want to have sex on a light day, but on a heavy day I normally use my diaphragm as a menstrual cup to have sex instead as it's far more reliable than softcups for mess-free period sex and far easier to deal with when they are removed. I normally use a Mooncup which is a silicone bell-shaped menstrual cup, far better than softcups for your period.

Simply they are not suitable for everyone, think about when a woman goes to get a diaphragm fitted; she has to have the diaphragm measured to fit – Softcups aren't measured to fit so simply do not fit all women. So leaking can be a problem for a lot of women, so too can pressure on the bladder or just general pushing - for me I had some pressure on my rectum, not too bad though, it was just leaking that was a problem for me when I was using Instead's.

I would highly recommend you get yourself a normal menstrual cup, these can be worn for up to 12 hours like softcups but are better because they are greener, less-messy, don't leak, cheaper and more convenient. They are bell-shaped so would work much better for you than softcups as they won't cause the same discomfort, also they offer money-back-guarantees from between 3 to 12 months so you can always get your money back if you try them and not like them. Then just keep the softcups you have left over for when you want to have sex on your period, which is what I do.

There's an alternative called a 'menstrual cup', which is a small cup that goes in the vagina and collects the blood, but if she can't wear a tampon then it's unlikely she could use one of those either. If she wears thongs, there are panty liners for those, although she'd have to change them quite regularly. Also, having her wear 'boy shorts' underwear with pads with wings (which will keep them from slipping) might work. If none of those options is possible, then she can get on the Depo Provera shot. It's a birth control shot that will eliminate her periods entirely.

In fact I just recommened this product to a friend of mine. I love it. It was very messy when time to change it, but other than that I had no complaints. I have a feeling that you may have used it wrong or your anatomy may not "fit" the rubber thing. Clean sex Is possible! I tried to see for my self. I only knew it was there because I was thinking about it and i could "kinda" feel it. I think in a day, I changed it twice and wore a pad or tampon to bed. I'm very suprised to hear someone who says they have used this product, because most of my friends have never heard of it or didn't want to use it. I hope it works for you, it took me a few times to get it in right and secure. Once it goes on right, you won't be mad to get your period again!!!

Since you insert it into the vagina I don't understand how it could have been pressing against your bladder. Yes clean sex is possible as a menstrual cup keeps all of the fluid in the cup until you take it out.

It's the greatest invention know to women! Yes you can have sex while wearing one. Although, I do recommend wearing a new one right before sex. It will leak if the cup is full. It should not hurt or bother you. You may not have inserted it right! Be sure you are following the instructions to a T! Good Luck! :)

I actually found it to be kinda gross, having to reach in and take it out and get all messy. I personally prefer to just have to pull on a string and have no other contact with the mess, but I also have rather heavy periods, so it may be better for other women. Also, when using a public bathroom, its rather nasty to have to exist the stall with bloody fingers.
