What about the 69percentile of AWOL's? What about the USS Constillation? Black Power? How about "Fragging" and "Search and Avoid? What history are you studying?Do you think Fonda was the lone ranger? Do you think American GI's were in agreement about the Vietnam War? Did'nt someone say "Those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it"?

Sue i can see what you mean! The gist of your question has been pretty much ignored so far.
No discussion of "Strategic Hamlets"-forced resettlement from the point of view of the Vietnamese.
No discussion of the My Lai Massacre.
No Discussion of the lying and escalation that wound up killing over 50,000 US servicemen and uncounted Vietnamese civilians.
Just a rehash of how much we hate "Hanoi Jane" complete with the urban legend about her handing over slips of paper POWs pressed upon her.
The big error in History that we are repeating is putting our troops in the middle of someone else's civil war.
It was the Mexican poet Santa Yanna that said that quote.
My pop was over there and he has said that, retrospect, what Hanoi Jane did helped escalate the tension back home and had the positive effect of ending the war. He said being here stateside and reinventing history and being over there wishing SOMEBODY would end this hellish occupation are two very different perspectives.

Do have a weigh down on Jane Fonda or what? >the place do you get off calling the ordeal the yank POWs in Vietnam went with the aid of a "finished fabrication"? The truth has been told and Fonda aided the enemy, and that is a fact.
As the American POWs returned home in 1973, they spoke out about the inhumane treatment and torture they had suffered as prisoners of war. Their stories directly contradicted Jane Fonda's earlier statements of 1972. Some of the American POWs such as Senator John McCain, a former Presidential candidate, stated that he was tortured by his guards for refusing to meet with groups such as Jane Fonda's. Jane Fonda, in her response to these new allegations, referred to the returning POWs as being "hypocrites and liars."

Disagree with your countries politics, fine, protest a war that you don't like, fine, Jane Fonda went to the enemy, stayed with them, had her picture taken sitting on an Anti Aircraft gun used to shoot down American pilots. Treason. She should be put in prison or exiled there. Except they would have shot her the first time she protested against their government. As for fragging, that was a term used when soldiers killed one of their own. Not because of their belief in the war, but because they were doing something stupid that would have gotten the whole squad killed and would not listen to more experienced soldiers. Usually young college educated idiot second lieutenants that thought they knew everything, and actually knew nothing. BTW what is your major?

Listen, you don't have one clue what you are saying and you think it's all about her war prostest! She was a true traiter in such as the horriable torturous POW camp she visited with the tv crew. She had 4 men cleaned up and they were made to tell the Americans how well they were being treated. When they slipped her their Social Securtiy numbers so they could be found she turned them into the guard and were tortured and killed for it. One survived. She would dress in the enemy clothing and have her pictures taken with the enemy. What in the world how old are you?? Are you one of the kids on here that have no clue?

This isn't Vietnam sister. The only thing Vietnam about this war are the liberals and the anti war protesters. The only thing that is Vietnam is that you have the media once again trying to turn the public against this effort. As far as the war goes, it's not like Vietnam at all and i'm suprised you don't know this considering you being a self proclaimed history expert.

I'm a straight up liberal baby, and even I have a problem with Jane Fonda. Even if you disagree with your country's government, that's a far cry from going over and having a fling with the enemy. It's not right. and she's said so, even though some things you can never take back. There's a way to be critical and protest and yet still be on OUR side.

Jane Fonda should have been executed for treason. Even her own brother hates her. If we had unleashed the power of this country upon Vietnam, there would be no one there now. Jane was wrong spirited, and went about protesting in the wrong way. You do not visit the enemy when your country is at war. She was wrong then, still wrong, and for the 26 months I was there I prayed daily for her demise. It is done, leave it alone, She made no difference, and that is the true test of time.

First of all, these people have nothing new to say; they want to live in the past, and haven't ever wanted to face that THEY may have been wrong.

Jane, herself, admits she may have gone a little too far. But, those of us who lived during that time realize that we were searching for ANYTHING that would get us out of the quagmire known as the Viet Nam war. Our boys were being killed for nothing!! (Sound like any "war" you can think of that's going on now???)

Some people latch on to ideas and never move ahead....hence the term: conservative!

You need to read up on what Ms. Fonda did. She basically fraternized with the NVA leaders. While she was enjoying fireside chats with NVA goons, Americans were in NVA prisons being tortured. Including Senator John McClain.

Fonda denied US soldiers were being tortured. She's drinking tea and our troops were having their fingernails torn from their beds, toothpicks shoved under their toenails. Nails stuck into their ears to rupture their eardrums. You-name-it.

Fonda didn't tell the truth because she didn't know the truth. She was and is a tinsel town freak. I bet that to this day she regrets what she did.
