Make both of the fractions equal.

It's easiest to multiply the two denominators ( 4 * 6 = 24)

So 1/4 is the same as 6 / 24.
and 5/6 is the same as 20/24

Add the fractions: 26/24

So, 2 + 4 + 1 + 2/24

and you get 7 2/24
simplify and you get 7 1/12.

Happy adding!

Change both mixed numbers into improper fractions.

So 2 1/4 is 9/4

And 4 5/6 is 29/6 (denominator x whole number + numerator)

Find the common denominator, which turns out to be 12 (3x4 and 6x2)

So multiply both numerator and denominator by the product.

(9/4 x 3/3) + (29/6 x 2/2) = (27/12) + (58/12)

Now both improper fractions have the same denominator, and finally you can add the numerators:

(27/12) + (58/12) = 88/12

If they're looking for mixed fraction, just divide 88 by 12, and you get 7 4/12 or 7 1/3

first you find the common denominator: 24
2 1/4 = 2 x/24
4 5/6 = 4 x/24
you divide the new denominator by the old one and then multiply that number by the numerator. you get:
2 6/24 + 4 20/24
then you add the numerators and simplify: 7 1/12

23/6 that`s for sure because you have : (2*1)/4+(4*5)/6= 2/4+20/6=1/2+10/3=3/6+20/6=23/6

Multiply each denominator by its corresponding whole number, then add the numerator and put that number back over the original denominator. You will wind up with 2 improper fractions. Then find a common denominator for the 2 improper fractions and add them together like regular fractions. Then simplify so your final answer is not an improper fraction.
