My laptop had a virus so I brought it to my school college campus which they fix your computer for free. Itz been a wk and 1/2 and they finally returned it to me but not fixed b/c they said my computer cracked @ the hinges @ the display on the back & they completely destroy my computer! The power won't even turned on anymore. I talked to the manager &director & they said it's not their fault b/c while the hinges were broken, ---opening and close it made it worse everytime & the wires attached probably disconnected so that caused a hardware failure. I know it's only my fault at the minor crack and broken part but it was only on 1 side that was cracked..since i turn it to them, they made the other side cracked & broken completely. They said they only fix the software and external parts- not into the hardware. They completely destroy my pc! It was working and all it was a minor virus that came to fix for and they didnt fix but broke it! wat would u do if ur in my case. go talk 2 the head?

Ok, if i understand this correct, this is at a collage correct? If so, and they work for the school and not just a few kids that do it in their dorm, then, what i would do is go to the head person over them. If this doesn't resolve anything, go to the dean, or head over your school.

Just because you didn't pay anything or they were doing it for free doesn't give them an excape from fixing something they broke, or broke more.

The only loop hole is if they had you sigh a waivor saying they are not responcible for accidents, or if it is in the handbook, or any written form, sigh, book, ect.

Even if the broke part is your fault, and they broke it worse, then they are responcible, esp. if they work for the school. IT would be unethical for them to break something and cause a hardware failure and not fix it. It would be like me going to change your oil for free, and forget to put oil back in. Or, in this case, it would still be my fault.

Opening and closing? That is a lame excuse, removing a virus isnt that difficult and doesnt require you to open and close a laptop but only 2 times, one to open and one to close when done.

I would take this all the way up the ladder of command if I had too. Its the only ethical thing for them to at least pay for repairs.

If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me on the e-mail address on my site. Let me know how it goes!

Sounds like a crappy repair job. Anyway I have a laptop here that has broken hinges for the screen. The unit would power on but the screen failed to power up. You might be in the same boat. If your laptop is like mine you can take a cover off around the screen hinges. There should be (most likely) connectors that popped out. Just snap them back in and replace the cover. Do this while the laptop is off.

I would pursue this with the college. If your pc/ laptop was in poor repair they should have opted not to attempt to fix it, but rather return it to you.
