You can get a cable that has a 3.5mm stareo jack (mp3 player\i pod plug)to 2 RCA plucs (the type that is in your TV) i use it all of the time and it works great I got it from a hardware store, but in australia Dick Smith, Big W and all of those types of places have them It cost about $4

I have hooked up both Ipod's and regular Mp3 players to a HiFi and a TV( though it was through a DVD player) with standard AV cables

You can if you are running it through something like an XBox 360. But you have to make sure they are compatible.
