Edgar Online does not sell "SEC data feeds". It sells stock exchange feeds and gives away Edgar information for free.

You can recreate Edgar Online for no fee (which I have done).

Here's what you do.

1) For your financial filing information, you just go to the Edgar website (as opposed to the Edgar Online). Edgar is the SEC, owned by the US Government. Edgar Online is a private company, which has licensed the Edgar name from the SEC but is not affiliated with them.

2) For data feeds, you can do one of two things (of which I've done both). You open up an account with an online broker. They'll give you free data feeds. I use E*Trade. If you want it in Excel, I use the "SMF" freeware add-on in Excel. It basically grabs HTML codes and puts them into Excel. I have a spreadsheet of all my favorite stocks and holdings. By opening up a spreadsheet, I get all my data feeds for free. The only downside is that the prices are delayed by about 20 minutes and can take about 30 seconds to refresh a spreadsheet. Email me if you want my templates.
