You even look through like game magazines and they have these fresh Graphics, what software they using??

Or better yet, say I want to design a serious art work design for my ebook, what software to use, that can help me design a professional looking graphic

Ok, most software they use is expensive, like Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and 3d Studio Max.

I like the GIMP. It is free, easy to master and works very much like photoshop, and runs on every major OS - Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD, Unix etc. Plus you can always save into any other format you wish. Great to learn on if you are serious about graphics because the skills you learn will very easily transfer to the big commercial packages.
