I believe you mean "shelf life," and it's used to inform consumers how long a product can remain on the shelf before it spoils or becomes useless.

shelf life ? thats how long something lasts. A twinkie has a shelf life of 20 years. After 20 years you have to throw it away because its no good anymore.

Yeah, what they said. Unless you meant "half life". In that case a half-life would be the amount of time it takes for a radioactive substance to emit and lose half of its radioactivity. Half-life is also a popular video game. Why is this question filed under Psychology?
