Both directors do wonders if given the right script, (and even with the less wonderful scripts, they make enjoyable films).

Even before the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Jackson had: 'Forgotten Silver,' a faux-documentary, and 'Heavenly Creatures' (which introduced Kate Winslet, I believe)...while Guillermo del Toro had:'Cronos'... 'The Devil's Backbone'...and now "Pan's Labyrinth'...

Both have a knack for the dark and fantasy-like worlds, and both are somewhat similar in appearance...

...but is one better than the other, or about the same in storytelling and directorial attributes.

I'm not sure if del Toro writes or co-writes his film, but Jackson usually co-writes his pictures with Fran Walsh, his wife...(which puts him a couple of notches above del Toro, I think).

I would agree with you and say Jackson. Peter Jackson has the unique ability to create movies with mass appeal, and yet meets the needs of fantasy geeks alike, so gotta go with him. Not to make Guillermo fans feel bad though, Pan's Labyrinth looks like a hell of a movie.

nicely i'm a Lord of the rings geek to the max, and that i think of Peter Jackson did a remarkable activity on LotR (with some small exceptions) i'm open to Guillermo del Toro i'm no longer gonna diss his artwork on the action picture until eventually I see it, yet i grew to become into dissapointed as quickly as I heard Peter Jackson does no longer be doing it.
