This is so vague. Practice focus in your life.
Now, if you dig ditches and you make 6 dollars an hour is that hard or smart? Hard I would think, but smarter than the guy who pushes the wheelborrow to take the dirt away, who makes 4 dollars an hour.
So it is both smart and hard.
Not as smart as the guy who sells the shovesl however, makes 6 bucks a shovel and sells 10 shovels an hour. Now that is smart and not as hard. But not as smart as the guy who has the contract to dig the ditches who makes 600 dollars an hour, who pays the shovel guy to buy 100 shovels, and pays you and 6 guys to dig the ditch and chages 100 hours to dig the ditch...now that is smart and hard. Not as smart as the guy who owns the property that he now has built houses on it that will sell for 100,000 for each house, who pays the man to pay the people to dig the ditches and who pays the man to sell the shovels and...now that is smart, and hard. Not as smart as the man who sold the guy the land ...Ok get my drift?
Life is hard.
You will always work hard and smart.
Sometimes you are the harder worker
sometimes you are the smarter worker.
Its always hard and you are always smarter than someone else.
(ps the guy who hauls the dirt away, and makes 4 dollars an hour, pays someone else 1.00 to clean his shirts for work.....
Good Luck.

If you succeed in becoming a journeyman in the trades
(carpenter or plumber or electrician or welder etc)
than means you have completed 4 years of schooling and on the job training . . . and will be highly skilled.
You will also be highly paid because true journeyman in the trades are rare, many just did a little residential work and call themselves that, but true journeyman work the commercial and industrial projects and make good $$$$$/

Hard work means you do the work and watch or expect other people to do the same.Ofcourse it pays. Not bad.
Smart work means you learn from other people mistake or unpleasant experience, learn from it so that you can do it correctly.
But on the other flip side you plan, set your goals and follow the person who is successful and duplicate him.Have a coach to guide you how to work smart.Yes one has to be honest, believe in
what you do.
I teach people in this area since last 3 years.Drop me an email if you are curious to know more.

in my own words hard work ? forget that! from what i have seen
the harder you work the less you get payed for the job well done
look at what you want out of life and were you want to be down the road and plan it that way if you got a chance to go to school
and take a coarse on something you want to do that's what i would do. god bless good luck
