I would recommend buying a posterboard, preferably white, and using either paint or sharpee to decorate it. Personal touches are always the best. Make sure people know EXACTLY who you are.

A sign printer will make anything up for you. You may not survive your trip to NYC carrying one though. New Yorkers are smarter than you think and don't like anyone telling them something like that.
