I know you mean well to ask... but why do people insist on cheering up the depressed.. people who struggle with depression need medical assistance.. meds and council.
There is absolutely nothing you can do that will alleviate depression... The only thing you can do is direct him to get help!
If they choose not to and make you feel guilty for giving them this advise.. they are only depriving themselves of a healthy minded life.
I am sorry if I sound rough.. but this thought of soooo many people wanting to help can not! except support them to seek council..

I try to make him smile or laugh. It's a hard thing too do. He is really depressed. Makes me sad.
