Is your position different on animals than it is for humans?

Yes, it's different. For one thing, animals do not have the capacity to weigh risks and benefits of certain treatments and to decide what they want. They also do not understand what is being done to them and are definitely not as evolved as humans.
I have had to euthanize pets when I decided their quality of living was no longer good enough.
I think we should have the option to euthanize loved ones, under very controlled guidelines. This is kind of where a living will and durable power of attorney come in. I have seen families decide that grandma has suffered enough and have stopped treatment, which is a passive form of euthanasia. I think permanently disabled people who have made the decision to end their lives should have that option. I know for fact that I would not choose to live as a quadriplegic. I'm sure others will disagree and tell me stories of happy quads, but as a nurse, I have a solid understanding of what life is like in that situation. Each person should have the right to choose their destiny. For pets, the owners have this responsibility.

When an animal is sufferring, and more than two licensed veteranians have determined the animal will not be able sustain life without severe and extreme discomfort, I am in favor of euthanizing that animal.

I am a daughter, a sister, a mother, a grandmother, a great- grandmother, and a wife. If I was told there was no hope for either of these loved ones, their days would only be filled with pain, I would release them.

My position is, if a animal is suffering you do the humane thing and have it put to sleep, and that is right.
I am also a Jack Kevorkian fan. I should have the right to decide if my health gets so bad, no hope left, and I am suffering....I should be able to say, "enough" I want to leave this world in peace. I have seen people suffering so bad, they beg to die and
there is no hope left for them. I cannot understand, if this would be my choosing....then it should be my right to choose. How can we not let a animal suffer, but yet we let a human suffer?
If doctors are in agreement, there is no hope left and you made this call when you were of sound mine, then it should be your choice.

I let the vet decides for pets, think they're professional enough to reason why. Humans on the other hand are more complex, there're morale, religion and ethical issues to consider. Unlike logic or science (yes or no), such issues have too many unfounded question and believes that's hard to resolve even till today.

My position on animals is that it is sad but sometimes necessary.

For humans, euthanasia is unethical.

Animals that are ill should be euthanized.

No human should be euthanized. I believe that an adult human who is terminal and capable of deciding their fate should be allowed to decide.
