Hi!

I just bought a Linksys WRT54G router for my PC. I was originally on a cable modem. I am now connected via the router ethernet to the internet and my brother in the next room uses a wireless USB adapter to wirelessly connect to the internet. At the moment he can access the internet the same as me.

Talking to a partial-newbie here, is it possible to set up a network with his PC through this router so I can, for example, share stuff with his PC? We are both running Windows XP. Thanks!

by being connected to the same router you are already networked.

Just enable file sharing in windows xp on both computers.
Use the network setup wizard, that will make things easy for a newbie.
Good luck

Yes, go to control panel and run the Network Setup Wizard to turn on file and printer sharing. You will need to do this on all the computers on your home network. You might have to restart your computer after you run the wizard. Once that's done you can 'right click' on a folder such as 'My Documents' and choose the Sharing and Security option from the context menu. Check the box that says 'Share this folder on the Network' and then type in a name for it. You can also check the box below it to allow users on the network to be able to modify files in the shared folder. Do this for as many folders as you want shared out. You can even go to 'My Computer' and right click on the whole drive and share it the same way. If you want to share a printer on the network just go to Control Panel on the computer that the printer is hooked up to, click on the printer and fax icon and find the printer that you want to share and right click on it, choose sharing and check the box to share the printer on the network. The other computers on the network will now see the shared printer listed when they go to print a document. To find all the shared folders and files on the network, you go to Start>My Network Places. Remember that it takes a few minutes for your systems to refresh and show the shared files and printers. If they don't show up right away then restart all the computers on your network. Hope that helps and good luck!

Am not familiar with the kind of router you are using but my son and I were running a network at our house from the basement to the upstairs. (DSL) We had no trouble sharing files of pictures. The color of the cable he used is blue.
