One of my friends was summarizing this book, and now I can't remember which friend it was.

The main character is average by our standards and is cryogenically frozen and wakes up in a future where all the people around him have been dumbed down to the point where he seems like a genius by comparison.

If you know the book and have read it, how many stars (out of 5) would you give it? (No plot spoilers please.)

I got the impression at the time that the story was a recent publication, and a satire. Darn this fuzzy memory of mine!

This is the movie Idiocracy with Like Wilson. I don't know if it was a book first. It came our last fall and tanked. Sounds like a fun story, though.

I never read the Sleeper one by Wells, but this is a common theme...Rip Van Winkle, the movie with Keanu Reeves and sidekick that takes place in LA, I think Vonnegut explored this theme also.

the "recent publication" part may be due to your knowledge of the television cartoon Futurama. While not totally what you want, it involves an "average joe" being frozen and awaking in the future.

When the Sleeper Wakes by H.G. Wells. I really liked it. Probably four stars. But then, I love anything by H.G. Wells.
