A decent mineral makeup is actually made up of 4-5 different minerals.
A true mineral makeup (not drugstore brand that add other cheap filler ingredients) does NOT clog your pores like others above have said.
They contain no talc, no oils, no dyes and no preservatives or fillers.
They actually keep your skin clean because the minerals can shield your skin against bacteria.
Minerals are inorganic materials. Inorganic material cannot enter the body through the skin, meaning it is completely impossible for them to clog your pores.
Most contain an SPF 15-30 which does not break down as fast so you are protected throughout the day from the sun.
They cover well without looking like makeup.
Some cheap mineral makeup has particles that are too large and can irritate the skin.
The drugstore brands add fillers and other preservatives. Be careful which brands you choose, they are not all created equal. From what I've seen any of the brands that dermstore.com seem good. colorescience.com explains mineral makeup very well if you'd like to study more.
To get a good mineral makeup be prepared to spend quite a bit of money at first ($40-$60). In the long run it will actually be very affordable, because you use so little makeup, you'll probably only buy it twice a year.

The mineral makeup doesn't contain talc, which REALLY clogs your pores. It also looks much more natural if you apply it correctly. I use the Physician's Formula Mineral Powder and it's exactly the same as Bare Minerals for a fraction of the price (around $10). You can get it in Wal-Mart. (Just make sure you don't put too much around the edges of your nose and your smile lines by your mouth b/c it will make it feel dry and look too powdery there.) My little sister's skin breaks out pretty bad when she wears foundation, but not when she wears the mineral powder and it looks really good on her. To get a healthy looking glow, use the mineral powder and then a bronzing powder on your nose and cheekbones for a sun-kissed glow. Good Luck. :)

Mineral make-up isn't all that hype. Mineral make-up clogs your pores and creates skin issues. People use it because they are tired of smearing on liquid make-up. They want that fresh natural look.
Another thing about mineral make-up is after it is on your skin it's very heavy. I would suggest Max factor or maybeline. Those two have some really nice products. If you wanted a glowing complextion check out this place www.dhc.com they offer a wonderful array of cosmetics and skin care items that can really make your face shine like the stars!
Good Luck!

Mineral makeup isn't made with oils and cremes and other things that sit on your face like frosting on a cake, and clog your pores. Non-oily, un-clogged pores is the foundation for healthy skin. Mineral makeup is natural minerals from the earth ground up into a powder form, and does bring out a natural "glow" to your skin.

Have you been watching those those infomercials? If so, let me tell you that that make up is impossible to blend plus it blotches up and gets into creases. All makeup is made with minerals, thats where the color comes from; all shades of brown are from iron oxides (commonly known as rust) which is what base and blush and concealer use as a primary colorant. The blue, green, red, pinks are from dyes but often they are mixed with mica and silicates to produce a shimmery finish. White eyeshadow is simply talc/chalk (another natural mineral) ; they add a little iron oxide to make it biege and a little more to make it brown. To make it shimmer they add the mica. See how it works...

Supposedly mineral make up is made from natural minerals and is therefore healthier. Mostly it's just a marketing scam because if there is anything on your face, it's clogging your pores.
And as for those celebrities' looks, it's called airbrush makeup. Caked on as thick as a pancake. You don't want it.

mineral powders are made with only 2 ingedients, zinc and titanium dioxide (which is just sunscreen.) minerals cannot penetrate your pores like other foundations so mineral makeup is 100% non comedogenic (non pore clogging) also, they have natural light reflecters in them which give you a dewy glow. Try urban decay surreal skin powders, they're amazing. available at sephora.

I used to use powder and liquid foundation and it would run and would look fake on my skin, mostly because its oily. Now I use the Bare Minerals line and I love it. I have had fewer breakouts using it than I did using liquid foundation, it doesn't run, and it looks more natural, at least on my skin. not to mention it is WAY faster to put on.
