I have been told that I have a cyst on one of my ovaries (detected by ultrasound), and have been told by my OBGYN that I will have to have that ovary removed. I do believe that there is a bit of scar tissue located around that ovary and that tube... anyone with experience or real ideas, as to why I need to have the ovary its self removed; instead of the cyst, would help me out a lot with my decision, and would help me to educate myself a little more....

Thanks a head of time... Im losing a lot of sleep over the lack of education on this topic, and worrying myself to death!!!!!!!

AND YES, RECOMMENDED WEB SITES WOULD HELP A LOT.
But would love to know if anyone else out there is now or has ever gone through this one, or has heard of this "major removal" of the ovary because of a cyst!!!!!! ty ty ty ty

Having one cyst is not even remotely indicative of a diagnosis of polycystic ovarian disease.

As for your question, I answered in your post...see that response re: endometriomas and treatment.

Good luck to you.

the first thing that i can ask you is how old are you do you have children?? ive had 3 surgeries in less than 1 year ive had 2 laproscopic surgeries to remove large cysts and scar tissue and just one week ago i had my left ovary removed. i would try to see if having a experimental laparotemy done to see if is really necessary to have the ovary removed i had a cyst that was larger than a softball grow witjin less than 4 months .Do yo take a birth control pill becuz they say that will help with some cysts ..I guess i can really only say second opinion before you have your ovary removed. i'm not a religious person but just pray that it wil be ok. I can understand the sleepness nights becuz i'm waiting to see what my pathology results are to make sure there are no signs of cancer i dont have alot of answers but i hope everything goes well for you

Yes. I had the same problem. Genetics gave you a disorder called Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
(PCOS). Your affected ovary will keep producing more cysts even if they are removed. That's why they want to remove it. There should be a web site out there for this problem.

Ask your doctor. They owe you answers to your questions. Don't be intimdated to ask! And take a friend with you to take notes. You could get a 2nd opinion, too. I had a grapefruit sized cyst and didn't know it until it twisted around and cut off the blood supply to my fallopian tube. It ended up being emergency surgery and I was in the hospital for 10 days. they don't want this to happen to you--this is why they are probably encouraging you to have the surgery soon. Good luck.
