I know people that have been "playing" for 20 years and I still can't listen to them. I know others that got pretty good in about two years. It really depends on how much time you have to dedicate to it. You will continue to learn forever and never be able to play every song the first time you listen to it (unless you're some type of musical savant). If you need guidance and coaching, don't be afraid to take lessons and most of all keep practicing!!

Well, BB King started when he was 10 and he's like 81 now. So I guess I would say it takes 70 some years.

Listen man, you will NEVER quit learning. Here's a tip. Play stuff you listen to ALL the time. Go to your local music store and get some music books that have the notation, tab, and a play along cd to song that you know every word too. Listen to the cd as you follow along in the tabs. Then go one note at a time from start to end. You'll get it eventually but it does take time.

Don't get discouraged about it. When you find yourself discouraged, don't be afraid to put it down for a day or two. Most of all HAVE FUN!

That's easy.......NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ask any guitar player if he's happy with his playing. The answer will always be no. Us guitar players are a special breed, there's always something that we're not content about.........speed, chops, "THAT ELUSIVE TONE", etc. I once asked an incredible guitar player named Frank Marino how he liked his own playing and he told me that when he was at his peak in his career he wanted to quit cause he thought he was really bad. I won't type the real word he used. So you see, whenever you reach what you would be happy with at today's measurement, when you get there, it just ain't good enough. BUT, that's a good thing cause it means you'll just keep getting better and better.
Have fun

practice, practice, practice....criminy some will crank out a song in no time flat - the rest of us have to work on it.

For you, break down the part that youre having trouble with and just work on that part alone.. piece by piece youll get it down..

"How long does it take to really good with a guitar!!!?"

As fast as you can buy one. If you mean to play, then 2 yrs. Playing punk chords doesn't mean you are good...

I would say about 2 solid years of practicing a few hours every week or weekend.

It took me about three months.. six for it to sound clean because I wasnt strong enough to push down the strings.

Everyone is at a different pace, you might just be too.
