First and foremost, you need to have the right mentality to run a business - whether it is high street, home based or online. Understand that a business requires dedication, hard graft and time from your end. The next you need to have is a business system and the right product. The last thing you need is you need to promote your business and never quit! If others have achieved in the same business, you can only do it too if you have the same drive and dedication and you follow the system and not reinvent the wheel. If you start a business with the mentality that you are giving it a try for six months, may I suggest you get a job. Even the best successful business is not right for you. Businesses take years to build and become establish. Many businesses flounder in the first 3 years, businesses become more stable after the first 5 years provided the management of the business is sound and the owners are doing what it takes to build the business. We have an online business for 6 years now. In the first few years we invested more money and time and energy than the returns however we can now start to see the rewards of having laid the strong foundation. Building a business is very hard work not for the faint hearted. I would suggest you get a job that give you flexible hours if you don't have the drive to work on your business year in year out - 24/7. Running a business is 24/7. You only get to enjoy the fruit once the seed that you have planted has grown to become a strong oak tree.

mjruth,

I know it can be overwhelming looking for a home based business, because I have been there.

I looked at about everything there was. I did not set a time table as to when I had to make a decision. I made a list of pros and cons from each opportunity and started marking off the ones that did not fit my needs.

I then asked myself "What is it that I want to do once I real financial freedom?" and my number one thought was TRAVEL.

Once I figured that out it was a no brainer (for me) what I wanted to do. I joined a company in the Travel Industry. I have now been with them for a year and three months. I can tell you thatthis is no scam. I wouldn't still be in it if I wasn't making money and having a blast in what I do. No inventory or selling required. Everyone likes to travel and it is as easy to talk about as the weather.

My wife and I love what we do!

Gee, that is a pretty good deal for you, great advice for a home based business to earn a living, and I get 10 points....hmm.

Avoid any of the 'packaged' kits that you see advertised. Find a book at the library. It will take some investment for a worthwhile business, but those with a 'buy-in' are not worth your time or money.
