My car keeps overheating and I'm changing out the water pump. I figure since I'm changing the water pump I might as well change the fan. So again, what are the benefits for having a new steel fan against a stock piece?

I really wouldn't waste my money. If there isn't anything wrong with the old fan (broken or chipped blades) you will never notice a difference. Just make sure the fan clutch is working properly - that will make a huge difference.

None the steel one will use more energy and use more gas. Have your radiator "boiled out" But new ones are so cheep I would get a new one from eBay.

If it has extra blades it will move more air.More air=better cooling.First i would want to find the cause of the overheating.
