You can but if you should thoroughly disinfect it first. The only way to disinfect it is to soak it and all plastic and metal accessories in a bleach/water solution (no less than 1 part bleach to 10 parts water) for at least ten minutes though more is better. If there is any wood or fabric accessories, they need to be thrown out.

I had a viral outbreak among the 100 Syrians I own. I worked very closely with my vet, other breeders and a pathologist. Everyone agreed, bleach is the only 100% disinfectant. Lysol does not work at all! Of course after soaking it in bleach, you need to wash it as you usually would to remove any bleach residue. One more "extra punch" you could give it would be to use the dishwasher set to Sanitize to clean the cage after the bleach treatment. You may need to be careful as sometimes the Sanitize setting gets hot enough to warp plastic.

Sure, we reuse our cages for other hamsters. Just clean it very well like you would normally. I'd wait a little while before getting another hamster and read about all the different ones there are. We have Teddy bears, Black bears, a Panda bear, a Dalmation and an albino. Plus we have 10 Campbell's Russians dwarfs. We spent several months trying to get the Damation hamster, their hard to find in most per stores. This site tells about some of the different breeds and colors available.

yeas, you may in all threat do this different than you may wash the cage incredibly properly in the past putting the two between the hamsters in it different sensible the hamsters could get sick through germs left at the back of while the different hamster exceeded directly to the finished beyond.

Of course you can use the cage and items again. If you believe that the hamster had some kind of infectious disease I would bleach it out first but chances are it "just died". Hamsters are known to do that.

The same thing happenend to my hamster. You can use the same cage as long as u clean everything out with water and bleach then with soap and it should be fine.

I think you should disinfect the cage for the new hamster. Make sure the product you use is safe for pets. We use Clorox Disinfecting spray and it's never made our hamster ill.

Hot soapy water and Lysol spray. I had several Hamsters in one cage. I think the price of cages is scandalous. I could almost see building an empire on the cost of those versus the production costs!

I wouldn't use anything from your old hamster, just incase it was something infectious. I would also use a disinfectant around where the old hamster cage was.

I agree you can use the cage again... but DO NOT clean it with anything containing bleach.... it is poisonous to small animals. Even if you wash it off really well there can still be traces. Just use antibacterial soap.
