im looking at a brand new Scion TC. I have the option of a Manual VS auto transamission. Price aside, what is the benifit of either?

I am a young guy and enjoy the occassional thrill of feeling the Engine Accelaration, however i have heard that for city or long distance driving Manual's are a pain to drive

On the other hand ive heard people who drive manual would never go back to an automatic because they can "feel the road"

Any feedback or experiences you could share?

In stop and go traffic an auto is very, very nice. Other than that, a manual is better on gas, gives you slightly more power, and is sportier. Long distance I don't see how a manual could be a pain - once up to highway speed there is no need to shift anymore gears.

If most of your driving is going to be driving from stoplight to stoplight, Then most assuredly you will want an automatic.
Unless you don't mind shifting a couple hundred times for a short trip across town and spilling your coffee or soda in your lap on a daily basis because you couldn't hold on to your beverage of choice AND shift the car smoothly enough to avoid the moron in front of you.
If you plan on driving out of the city and hitting the open road or country back roads more than once a week than you will have the opportunity to get some benefit and satisfaction from a stick shift.
I have had many cars and trucks over the years with both forms of transmissions. As for driving long distances, once your at cruising speed on the freeway, it doesn't matter which transmission you have, Your only challenge is to keep your eyes open and your bladder empty.

City driving auto. long distance and or country manual. Is there any Chance you can have "paddles" installed on the auto? this would let you to select the gear you want to be in with the auto and not the Paine and maintenance of the manual. Saab. for example offers the paddles on the steering wheel It is a factory install but with the options the Scion offers maybe this is one. Have fun.

you will want the automatic. I live in a small town in western kansas and have a manual and it drives me nuts on my ten minute drive across town. Plus it is not like you will be able to enjoy that thrill of acceleration when you will be stopping 100 feet down the road at every stop light. You'll be much happier with the automatic.
