I did have dial-up and.....well.....if you've ever had it(dial-up) you know what I mean.I also have satillite(the dish) so my phone is always hooked to the sat. unit(for some reason, I'm not sure, just the rules). So, anyway it makes things quite confusing, don't you think?I'm looking for the most reasonable yet not so many ties to bind. Also are there any sites I can go to off-line. this could take awhle and It gets pretty boring when you can't go online and talk to someone or web surf.......something?! Got to go,.... computer lab is closing, thanks.

DSL is faster, and uses your regular phone line, without tying up the phone. It's a good idea to have a DSL filter ($15) to prevent static over your house phone cause by the DSL signal. Sometimes when your having DSL installed, if you ask they will give you the DSL filter for free. Cable is faster, and uses a cable similiar to the one attached to your TV. Who to go through for internet service, usually your phone or TV company will offer it. Prices vary, the faster the internet speed the more you pay to play. Chow

You might first try and see if your sat TV network offers the internet. You may find a bundle deal that will save you money. As for why your Sat TV plugs into the phone line, the line is used to uplink you to your Sat TV provider. If they have an internet package, it will owrk the same way. You will type a web addy and the phone line will tell them what site you are looking for, the download side will be from the sat to your PC.

If you have cable in your area, go with them. Download speeds are usually not capped (although it's a shared pipe with the rest of your neighborhood). But I am in busy suburbia and get 7mb downloads all the time. Fasssssssssst.

Since you have dish you will want DSL and not cable. If you live in a rural area it might be hard to get it, while if you live in a populated area it should be easy. Might want to check this out: http://dsl.theispguide.com/
