I planned on quitting my job in May and staying home with the baby....however, it looks like I may have to go on bedrest pretty soon here. Things are going to be pretty tight with me not working, and we don't have disability benefits at my work. I just need to make it until May because my husband gets a raise about then.....does anybody have any ideas on what to do?

I'm 18 weeks pregnant and doc says I will most likely be on bedrest for 20 weeks because of my high blood pressure.

Go to social services. Some people are embarrassed to get welfare. But that is what it's there for, for unfortunate situations like this. As long as you don't take advantage of it it's okay.

If your position doesn't absolutely require your physical presence, you could certainly attempt to approach your boss and request to do your work from home. But when it comes down to it, you really do have to make a choice between your baby and your budget. And put in those simplistic terms, I'm sure the decision doesn't sound as difficult anymore. There really is nothing you can do. Most doctors don't recommend bedrest lightly. It's an action taken only when deemed absolutely necessary for the safety of baby and mother. My plan would be to find as many ways to cut back on spending as possible. I'll put some links in the sources that may help. We've never had much money, so I've always had to make it go as far as possible. Most of what we buy is used, I use coupons, especially when we eat out. Even little things like not having lights/TVs/computers, etc running when not needed and conserving gas when driving. Watching the circulars that come in the mail for what's on sale at the grocery stores. Especially for baby stuff, it's easier than ever to find things cheap, eBay is one of my favorite spots, and if you've got a laptop, or a computer near the bed you could start getting all your shopping done. Get rid of cable, change home phone service to save money. Streamline your cell bills. Good luck.

Add details...Why do you think you will need to be on bedrest. Is this what you say...or your doctor?

THANKS for adding details. So basically you might be at risk for toximia or preeclampsia. My blood pressure went super high at one appointment but was stable at the others, they say when you are pregnant it will change quite a bit. Usually doctors dont advise bedrest unless it is extremely neccessary. So think positive. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you hang in there as long as you can. Also they will check for protein in your urine at your appointments

i would say do somethings just for you and no one else take a long walk or a bubble bath and just relax your stressed i know and i know that its hard with one here and one on the way
but you need to take time out of the day for just you that will help with your blood pressure and eat less sweets if you can that will help to and eat more meats dont ask it helps
i was almost bed ridden when i was 30 weeks pregnate then my great great grandmother told me about this and well my blood pressure went way down so you just have to relax and well just enjoy what you have
you are truely blessed

Try searching on-line for work from home jobs. Check with your local dhs to see if you qualify for supplemental income temporarily. There may be a lot of opportunities out there for you locally until your husband gets his raise.
Good luck

Well, if its just until May, cut back on everything that's not a necessity. Get rid of the cable, internet, eating out, hair cuts, nails, everything that can go. Hey, you may find that you don't even want them back once you have the money again.

Work from home? Get a job that only requires you to be online? Get gov funded help seeing as you cant work and are pregnant?

This is exactly why you should be healthy before getting pregnant. There's no advice here, just listen to your doctor. Maybe you can get unemployment.
