Hello, bizz!

I went to Boracay with my two female cousins two summers ago. I have to agree with the two fellows above me: BORACAY IS OVER-DEVELOPED, not to mention OVER-RATED.

My first impression was: This is not the Boracay I see on those lovely, National Bookstore postcards. FAR FROM IT! The Boracay that I saw assaulted me with its noise, commercialism and over-developed nooks and crannies.

But interestingly, the three of us enjoyed our stay there because of the island vibe that reverberates and resonates in and around the island. We have never seen so many different foreigners in one place. It's like there's a United Nations convention going on somewhere. We heard different languages and dialects---it's a virtual Babel out there! And the reggae and island music we heard wafting and blaring are like nothing we've heard before or since.

We first stayed in an old, over-priced cottage in Station 3. Then we transferred to a newer, cheaper tenement in Station 2 (forgot the name, sorry) because my cousins were afraid of the cockroaches that besiege our cottage every now and then.

We weren't able to do much because my cousins didn't want to. I found out to my dismay that they don't want to lose their artificial fair skin (we're in a beach...duhhh), that they are moral prudes who think wearing a bikini in public is unnatural, and they are afraid we might get in trouble if we go out at night.

Thus, all we did in Boracay was watch TV (Pope John Paul II just died the day we flew to Boracay), eateateat and shopshopshop at D'Mall. Almost crazed, I decided to take matters into my own hands on the third day. I went swimming without them. Then we went swimming on the fourth day and it was great because I was able to get a nice tan and I got to wear my Speedo trunks.

The powdery white sand is also a marvel to behold. It's true what they say about it: it doesn't feel hot even in the afternoon sun!

Be that as it may, I plan to go back to Boracay but with a different set of companions and on a different time of the year. Hopefully, my next trip will be full of unforgettable activities and memorable encounters.

Good luck on your trip!

I've been to Boracay 4 times. It is OK to party for 2 days, then it gets boring. It actually isn't a very nice place because it is overdeveloped, crowded, vendors are constantly bothering tourists, prices are a rip-off, most of the food is at most average, etc.....

There are much nicer places to be in the Philippines

Unlucky 911 - I think that's what Mike is trying to say. You should be embarrassed that you and your countrymen actually pride yourself on that kind of commercial tourism when there are so many other much more beautiful places in your country. Boracay is a run of the mill mass tourism beach and nothing more. If I would have went to Boracay for a 2 week vacation from Europe - it would have been my last trip to the Philippines. Its OK (read ok, but nothing special) for a weekend trip from Manila, definitely not worth an intercontinental flight.

I beg to differ, Tequilamike. I'm a Filipino and one of the places I love in my country is Boracay. Pardon me for not being to Bali or wherever (I can't compare), but I know I had a great time in Boracay (and in several other majestic places in my country).

Off all the beaches I've visited, nothing beats Boracay. I stayed in Tirol and Tirol, which is very close to the white sand shore. It's a great resort. The rooms look like nipa huts on the outside, but inside, you can have the comfort of a pretty decent hotel. It's close to the bars and restaurants, and the price is cheaper compared to the hotels all over the place.

There are a lot of places to visit in Boracay, but you don't have to pay much to enjoy. I didn't spend too much money (because my auntie paid for the trip and everything else). My most memorable moments were spent on the beach. I loved bathing in the crystal waters, and I'll never forget how I lay down in the white sand for the first time in my life!

Too bad Boracay is a bit endangered now. I mean, it's not just the tourists that are ruining the place. It's the Filipinos who run it. They're the extortionists and the litterbugs. It's sad.

Anyhow, make Boracay your next tourist destination. I mean seriously. It's not really expensive, and it's one of the things we Filipinos pride ourselves with. Sorry if it can't please certain people like Tequilamike, but I'm sure a Boracay excursion can be one of the best freakin' experiences you'll have in your entire life.

Walang kokontra. Hello sa mga kapariho ko na Bisaya!!

Boring, boring, boring.

Going to Boracay is like going to Pattaya in Thailand, Kuta Beach in Bali, Torremolinos in Spain, Blackpool in England and any one of a thousand other low class, overdeveloped, overrun grotty tourist locations around the World.

This country has so much more to offer people, but unfortunately, Filipinos think that having been to Boracay is the most fantastic experience in this stunning country, how boring they all are, how little they know about the Philippines, how jaded they are that they have to be surrounded by thousands of other foot shuffling locals thinking that they're in Paradise.

Paradise exists everywhere in this country EXCEPT the main tourist areas!

I've been to many places in the Philippines but the one place I don't want to go is Borocay. For all the reasons Tequila Mike says. The best places are always wherever the tourists DON'T go.
