The original Nano came in 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB models, in either black or white. The new Nano comes in 2GB silver, 4GB pink/green/blue, and 8GB black models, and each tier costs the same as the previous generation even though you get twice the storage capacity. The old Nano also had a full acrylic face, like the Video 5 and 5.5 models, which is like a scratch magnet. The new Nano went back to the anodized aluminum body like they used for the Minis, where the color is impregnated into the surface of the metal, which is a more durable material than acrylic. It'll still scratch, but not from just slipping it into your pocket. And finally, the battery life is significantly improved over the original Nano.

As long as your Nano's screen doesn't crack, there's nothing really wrong with it that a good adhesive screen guard won't prevent (ie the issue with how easily acrylic scratches, even with a "scratch-proof" microfiber polishing cloth).

2. It's thinner.
3. It has more colors.
4. It has a brighter display.
5. It's cheaper in terms of dollars per gb.

The colours, they don't skratch as easily, the screens brighter, the battery lasts longer and there's an 8 gig model now(the black one). That's it. They're pretty cool.
