not if you are downloading music that isn't copyrighted. Limewire can't be held fully responsible for what people put online to download though - they just provide a file sharing service that anyone can access and connect to other users. It is illegal to download the material not to use the service as it is possible that you could be downloading material that has been cleared for copyright. As most music that people want to downlaod is copyrighted, then it is the person that chooses to download the illegal material that is breaking the law. There are many prosecutions taking place just now - some have been successful, some have not. 18000 have been prosecuted and fined in America.

Limewire is no more illegal than Napster was. In other words, it'll last in its present form for a few years, and then the RIAA will probably have filed litigation that will force it to require paid subscriptions just like Napster does now. The argument that they can't be held responsible for what users post on their service was already tried and struck down by the US legal system.

Now, as for whether your use of Limewire is illegal...that all depends on what you download. If it's something that has fallen out of copyright, then no, you can't be subjected to legal action for downloading it. If you download one or two files, you probably won't attract any attention, or if you do, you'll probably be left alone because it won't be worth the cost of prosecution (there's a store near where I live that reportedly won't even accost you unless you've stolen more than $10 worth of merchandise because of the expense involved for them to press charges). If they spot you downloading dozens of the latest albums, they'll eventually find a way to track you down. Remember, it happened with Napster, and they provided essentially the same service that Limewire does now.

My Dear Friend,

First of all, Limewire is Hard Spyware. It will demolish your entire computer system and throw all your personal information on share...I request you NOT TO USE LIMEWIRE AT ALL.

Better to use Bit-torrent software or more better buy a affordable CD/DVD.

Take care of your computer more...It will take care of you in coming days.

Expecting Success...Always.
