Has she tried putting on Vasaline intensive care and then sleeping in gloves? (cotton). That will help some, also running a humidifier will help keep them from busting so often. Olive oil applied to the hands a few times a day will also help keep them softer and less likely to crack.

My mom has the same thing happen to her hands, and it is worse in the winter. But outside of that we haven't found anything that helps her more. Hope you find something that helps your Mom! Give her my good wishes =) And she's lucky to have a daughter who cares so much.

One favorite product in Canada for dry skin is George's Cream. A very heavy moisturizing cream.
