you havta use logs

1.59^(x) = 2.099

so, in order to find the value for x, take the log of both sides

log 1.59^x = log 2.099

using the power law, bring the exponent to the front of the log

x log 1.59 = log 2.099

isolate for x

x = log 2.099/log 1.59

x = 1.60

Taking log of both sides

x*log1.59 = log 2.099 so x= log 2.099 /(log 1.59) = 1.5989

159^x = 2.099
log 159^x = log 2.099
x log 159 = log 2.099
x = (log 2.099) / (log 159)

lg(1.59^x) = lg2.099
xlg1.59 = lg2.099
x = (lg2.099)/(lg1.59)
= 0.160 (3 s.f.)
