It can take a few days for a tooth to be completely out of the gums, but I do not know if it hurts the baby the whole time or not. I have an all-natural method of pain relief that I use for my babies and you may just have the "secret" ingredient in your kitchen.
CLOVES:Natural Pain Killer
Make a tea out of cloves (the ones you keep in your kitchen to make apple pie). Then dip the corner of a wash cloth in the tea and let her suck on it. Cloves have pain-relieving qualities and it is 100% all natural (if you use purified or distilled water:) This really works.
Tea
Boil 1 cup of water. Pour over 2 tsp. of whole cloves. (You can use the powdered cloves, but they are harder to strain completely.)
Let steep for 10-15 minutes. Strain out the cloves and keep the tea. Let cool.
You can give the cloth to baby while it is a little warm, but make sure it isn't too hot. It doesn't take much to keep her happy.
Take the leftover tea and pour it into ice cube trays. Freeze and store in the freezer in a zip-lock bag. Pop one out and defrost any time you need it. (You may not need a whole cube every time, so you could pour the tray compartments half full and make smaller cubes. That would cut down on waste.)

Unfortunately it can take anywhere from a day or so to several months. Teeth can go up and down, sometimes breaking through and then going back under. I was shocked the first time this happened to my daughter, and she's now been teething for about a month and a half and has yet to cut a tooth to show for it, though I have seen a few trying to near the surface.
Things I can suggest to help: cool or frozen washcloths to chew on, baby orajel, homeopathic teething tables (some aren't comfortable using this, use your own judgement), teething rings/toys, teething books/blankets that have the rubber corners, or even a clean knuckle does wonders sometimes. And infant tylenol during the worst of the episodes or sleepless nights, with approval and correct dosage from your pediatrician.
Good luck honey I hope yours will come through quickly! Last night was one of our worst nights yet, though it seems like tonight she's sleeping well so far.. *crossing fingers*

The first tooth usually takes awhile, a week or two. Motrin and Tylenol are your friend. Another good product is the infant Anbesol or a similar product. I would try and go with a name brand for this, as the generic brands didnt seem to work as well. The worst part is, that after they rarely get one tooth, they will usually comes in spurts of four or so, especially the first few. Once my son started teething, he went on for about a year, getting one tooth afteranother. Hope this helps ya.

I had the same challenge, at approximately 10 months my little boy have been given 7 tooth, 4 precise and 3 backside at as quickly as, I never used medised so i don't be conscious of whats in it however the pharmacist cautioned me to grant calpol alongside with neurofen for babies at night and follow the teething powders and bongela or calgel and teething rings and so on in the day time. The neurofen incredibly helps through fact it could help shrink the inflammation in the little gums that occurs with the tooth are coming with the aid of. I nonetheless did not get lots sleep for some weeks yet he substitute into lots happier, nonetheless mandatory a super number of cuddles yet much less crying. We had a harm for some months and now he's getting 4 of his back tooth yet especially they have not afflicted him in any respect, 2 are authentic with the aid of already with none sleepless nights.

I feel for you. My son is one year old tomorrow and now has 9 teeth. The amount of time it takes for a tooth to pop completely through the surface of the skin really varies. Some did in no time (1 bad, sleepless night) and others seemed to pop up and take their time working all the way through. My son just got his first molar and MAN!! What a pain. It was weeks, off/on, of fussiness, sleepless nights and crying.

Unfortunately for both of you, it can take a while as the tooth will move up and down under the gums, but once it breaks through she will feel MUCH better! Some things you can try to help ease her discomfort are a cold wet washcloth for her to chew on, anything that is firm and safe for her to chew on really, but if it is cold it tends to ease some of the pain better...be careful w/ frozen teethers, she may not like the extreme cold, but you can refrigerate them! Teething tablets can help too, if it is affecting her sleeping at night try giving her some tylenol or motrin right before you put her to bed...motrin usually lasts longer if you are comfortable w/ that!! Best of luck to you!!!!

Another thing you can try in addition to the cold teethers is a cold metal tablespoon, just an ordinary one that you would eat with, but you need to keep any eye on her, she may try to swallow it. My boys both liked this but I always had them on my lap or watched them in the high chair when they had a spoon.
The other thing is, if you freeze those water filled teethers they may burst. I would only put them in the fridge, though the gel ones may be OK to freeze.
Sometimes babies also like those hard teething biscuits, though they do make a mess. I had one kid who liked them and one who didn't
Good luck!

seems like forever, i know. cold wet wash clothes, she'll put it straight in her mouth. frozen waffles, she will love it. and an old family tradition a lil booze on the gums.
there is no telling how long this one will take and there could be another pushing thru.
one good thing is that not every tooth bothers them.
