i'm trying to hook my router and it wants to know what i have but none of these (save static) mean anything to me
dhcp
pppoe
pptp
l2tp
telstra
or static
my apartment managment only offers 1 service so we have that, how can i tell what i have

I still havn't got it, I found some properties that say Intel(R) PRO/100 VE
I just plug my ethernet cable from the wall to my computer and I'm connected

If you had your computer hooked up and it worked without you setting anything special, you probably have dhcp. Put that in and see what happens. You will probably have to restart the computer in order for it to work properly as the router must assign your computer an IP address. Good Luck!

In the US it's probably ppoe, if you have windows xp, it should tell you in control panel Network Connections, or call the ISP Provider to determine what Protocol they offer. Good luck

Go to start button click on connections it will show what type of connetion you have. If it's DSL it will show and by pppoe or what ever. Also 1394 status and ethernet status.

Click on start, programs..it's in there...also click on start, control panel, then on internet options..that should do the trick..duh..ya sound like me a couple of months age..that's how ya learn!

Or...call the manager and ask!

press start then control panel then network and internet connections than internet options a box will come up then click connections ,,, then select lan settings it will tell u

These are protocols, they aren't your service. What are you on, DSL (high speed phone) or cable?
